Theology Thursday: Becuz I’ve just gotta be me

My reading this past week hasn't yielded anything much to blog about. So this week I thought I'd throw out a little post about something about my personal theology that makes me different. Here it is:

I don't believe in the Rapture

I imagine that comes across very shockingly, but allow me to soften the blow. I absolutely believe in the Second Coming of Christ. I could even be convinced that it's imminent (but I'm not convinced it is). Just not The Rapture.

So, why would I say I don't believe in the Rapture? Mostly, to start conversations. See, I don't believe in the pre-tribulational rapture of the church, which is generally what people refer to when they use the word "rapture." Post-trib is more likely, given what I've read in Scripture, but I don't believe in that, either.

I'm not even a premillenialist. In my times of optimism, I'm postmillenial, because I like to think that the church will succeed in her mission of reaching the whole world, and even convert most of it. Most of the time, though, I'm amillenial, which means I think the "thousand years" spoken of in Revelation refers to the Church Age (the age in which we're living). I believe Christ will return and resurrect the dead, and transform the cosmos (including us), and judge the living and the dead. But I think this will be one event, not preceded by a bunch of other stuff like the Tribulation (I think that already happened).

Yes, I've read Left Behind (actually I listened to the audio book). I just don't agree with the theology. I don't believe it lines up well with Scripture.

Scandalous, no? I also don't believe Satan is necessarily a fallen angel. But I'm not going to blog about that right now. I've done it before, and I imagine the posts are right now popping up in "Similar Posts", so I'll let you surf on over if you'd like. (Nope, didn't show up...AI recaps cluttering up my Similar Post stuff. Get it here.)

Maybe next week I'll be back with a long, boring post about something obscure again. Or maybe more of my outlandish beliefs.
